Mascots might be all fun and games on the field, but stepping inside the costume is serious business.

"One of the things people don't understand is that a mascot is more than just a fuzzy character," said Max Marcucci, 18, a senior at Thomas Jefferson High School who has worn the jaguar costume for four years. "It's an extension of the public relations office and it's a symbol of the community."
