Settlement Approved in East Hills Housing Dispute

Summary


A federal judge approved a $714,000 settlement on Tuesday between the Department of Housing and Urban Development and 52 former East Hills housing project co-op members who sued the agency in 2006.

The shareholder residents of Third East Hills Park claimed HUD evicted them under false pretenses. The agency claimed they had failed to keep up their properties; the evictions allowed the agency to foreclose on the property and sell it to Pittsburgh's Urban Redevelopment Authority, which resold it to a private developer.
