Summary
I was pleased to read that R.M. Scaife decries defunding Planned Parenthood ("Don't defund Planned Parenthood," Feb. 27 and TribLIVE.com). It is with regret that the Republican Party which he so generously funds has taken abortion (along with guns) as a litmus test for political discourse for the last half of his (and my) life. He will acknowledge that when abortions were illegal during the first half of his life, they were performed anyway and often under such deplorable circumstances as to give rise to Planned Parenthood.
It is a historical truth that if abortions were made illegal, they would still be performed. Shame on the Republicans for pretending otherwise.See the full content of this document
