Summary


As encouraging as it is that Navy SEAL sharpshooters took out three pirates who held the captain of an American cargo ship for five days off the Somali coast, quite discouraging is the hand- wringing that's going on in some quarters.

Capt. Richard Phillips made himself a hostage in order to save the crew of the Maersk Alabama. He attempted one escape. The pirates demanded a ransom. Negotiations bogged down. And when commanders on the shadowing destroyer USS Bainbridge thought Mr. Phillips was about to be executed, sharpshooters did their duty.
