Skedel Goes the Distance for Piaa Javelin Title

Summary


United junior Eric Skedel placed first in the Class AA javelin at the PIAA track and field championships, thanks in part to his relatively new throwing device. He always knew that javelin was unique, but the gold-medal performance added even more meaning to the sentimental gift.

The javelin was given to him as a Christmas gift this year from his aunt Debbie and uncle Dennis. Four months later, Debbie died suddenly of a heart attack. And Friday, at the state championships, Skedel used that javelin to record a throw of 198-07 and earn a gold medal.
