Steelers' Keisel Fined for Hit

Summary

Steelers defensive end Brett Keisel was slapped with a $12,500 fine for a hit on Redskins quarterback Jason Campbell in an Aug. 18 game. Campbell left the game with a bruised knee after Keisel hit him in his left leg while trying to sack the second-year quarterback. Keisel was penalized for roughing the passer. Keisel, who lost his footing on the play, said last week that he didn't expect to get fined by the NFL but added that he wouldn't be surprised if the hit cost him money. Aaron Smith, who starts opposite Keisel on the Steelers' defensive line, said defensive players are at a disadvantage when they rush the passer because they are only permitted to hit quarterbacks in certain areas.

"You don't have time to analyze 'This is how I want to tackle him,' " Smith said last week. "You almost have to get it in your mind that you're willing to accept the fine, I guess, because you want to make the plays that you have to."
