Summary
The team practiced outside Friday for the second time this week, as they concluded preparations for Sunday's AFC divisional playoff game against San Diego at Heinz Field. The Steelers also practiced outdoors Monday. "I think it's important to get out there, and just get a feel for it. Get used to it mentally," said defensive end Aaron Smith. "Cold is cold, but mentally you can get used to it a little bit." Considering that the Steelers practiced indoors on Wednesday and Thursday, Smith said he didn't know the final practice of the week would be outdoors. "I just show up and go where they tell me to go," Smith said.
- Running back LaDainian Tomlinson isn't the only San Diego starter to be slowed by injury. But while Tomlinson ruled himself doubtful for Sunday because of a groin problem, tight end Antonio Gates is expected to play despite a high ankle sprain. Gates, who also is experiencing tightness in his Achilles tendon, did not practice Wednesday and Thursday. He's apparently more concerned about the Achilles injury, which may be connected to the high ankle sprain. Gates led the team in receptions (60) and touchdown catches (eight) this season. He had two catches for 10 yards when the teams played in November.See the full content of this document
