On Friday around 7:30 p.m., a dark-haired, wiry man will stride onto the stage at Consol Energy Center. The audience at the Bon Jovi concert might be the biggest he's ever performed for, but don't expect him to be intimidated. He'll lean into the microphone and say something improbably pithy and humorous -- perhaps "it's good to be back in "Pennsyl-tucky" -- and then pour his heart out in song.

Meet Norman Nardini, the Wilkins resident hand-picked by Jon Bon Jovi to open Friday's concert. "The closer I get to it, the more I realize what an overpowering opportunity it is," says Nardini, who has been performing on area stages for almost 40 years. "It's kind of cool that it comes to a guy like me because I've worked so hard at making music, but I've overlooked the business side of music. For someone like Jonny (Bon Jovi), who is so good at music and the business side, to open up this opportunity for me, is so much more than I could do for myself."
