A suspended Pittsburgh police officer was ordered to stand trial today on charges he pistol-whipped and shot a pedestrian that he believed assaulted him in the South Side while he was drunk.

Paul Abel, 34, an eight-year police veteran, is charged with aggravated assault, two counts of drunken driving and reckless endangerment.
