Summary
At an album release party Friday for "The Contemporary Dynamic," bassist Tony DePaolis put together a show with a 21st-century look at jazz. Even when doing the standard "If I Were a Bell," the group, playing at Little E's, Downtown, shook off any old tone connected to the Broadway hit.
The gig, which drew a full house to the club, was built around the band of DePaolis, drummer James Johnson III, pianist Michael Murray and saxophonist Eric DeFade.
