Trib's Holiday Drive for Needy Aims to Raise $115k; Help 6,500 Families
Each grocery bag will hold a gift certificate for a meat item of the family's choice, plus scalloped potatoes, stuffing, canned vegetables and fruit, fruit-flavored gelatin, applesauce, cornbread muffins, snack crackers, holiday cookies and hot cocoa.
Each bag will contain coloring books and crayons for children. Each participating Salvation Army service unit or Corps will receive boxes filled with donated new and gently used children's books for distribution to families.Assistance comes from the Salvation Army, which screens the recipients and delivers the groceries, and from Shop 'n Save, which orders and delivers the groceries and the crayons to our packing site.About 300 dedicated volunteers pack the groceries and load the trucks.But the most important help comes from Trib Total Media readers - - individuals, families and corporate donors who fund the project with gifts large and small.Some donors prefer to remain anonymous.
