Summary


G-20 mess: There's talk of no bus or subway service in the Golden Triangle during next month's Group of 20 economic summit in Pittsburgh. If that comes to pass, millions of dollars in commerce will be lost. Worse, these restrictions and others won't be made public until pretty much the last minute because of security concerns. How is any business supposed to plan? And here we thought the G-20 was supposed to "benefit" Pittsburgh.

Suckers & fools: The Rivers Casino opens on Pittsburgh's North Shore this Sunday. And it's projecting that it will make $400 million in its first year. Of course, to make that money, gamblers will have to lose $400 million playing its 3,000 slot machines. It's a sucker's bet and a fool's belief that this kind of thing represents "progress" and "economic development." Yet that's what we'll hear over and over again in advance of the opening. How sad.
