A perjury and gun offense trial of state Sen. Robert Regola has been tentatively set for Jan. 7, several months before the first- term Republican lawmaker is to run for re-election.

And when the case goes to trial, it will have a new presiding judge. Citing a conflict of interest, Westmoreland County Judge Richard E. McCormick Jr. recused himself from the case late last week.
