At the risk of ridicule and excommunication, eight women -- including one from McCandless -- chose to buck the tradition of the Catholic Church and were ordained as priests Monday afternoon in a ceremony aboard a Gateway Clipper boat.

Roman Catholic Womenpriests organized the ceremony -- the first by the group in the United States. Throughout the four-hour ceremony, the three presiding bishops and other speakers argued that women deserve the right of priesthood.
