Amid arena-style cheers filling one of the holiest sites of the Catholic church, Donald W. Wuerl -- a native of Mt. Washington and former bishop of Pittsburgh, received his red cardinal's biretta at St. Peter's Basilica in Vatican City on Saturday.

"I am humbled by our Holy Father Pope Benedict XVI's trust in me as shepherd of this flock and pledge to him my renewed fidelity, affection and loyalty. This is a very exciting moment," Wuerl said after the ceremony.
